What you’ll do:
Support the business in their day-to-day and long-term strategic decision-making process through insightful, high quality and data-driven financial and operational analyses
Focus on analyses ranging from short-term, current-business incremental opportunities such as sales, operational efficiencies, and customer service, to long-term complex opportunities in adjacent businesses or brand-new ‘blue sky’ initiatives
Influence people and decision making by bringing data to life through compelling stories that drive action and bringing a fact-based approach and ability to understand multiple perspectives into the conversation
Learn and embrace new analytics methodologies, approach, and data management, compiling and analyzing data from various sources using queries, Excel and other BI tools, communicating the results in an effective and efficient manner
Partner with stakeholders in the preparation of various financial planning activities (long range planning, forecasting, annual budgeting)
Bring business meaning to financials by synthesizing financial data, and identifying variances and trends to provide insightful commentaries
Collaborate with other team members to build business cases and obtain appropriate approval by the senior leadership team
Assist in the creation of new reporting that business can run on their own while helping to maintain data integrity and accuracy of those distributed reports and ensuring stakeholders have access to timely, relevant, and accurate financial and operational reporting

What we’re looking for:
3+ years of relevant work experience
Prior business experience with financial data modeling, Excel, PowerQuery, and SQL
Bachelor’s degree in commerce, finance, accounting, economics, and/or related field

The company, founded in 1966 and headquartered in Richfield, Minnesota, is renowned for its wide range of electronics, appliances, and related services.
Best Buy’s foray into the UK market began in 2010 through a joint venture with Carphone Warehouse, a leading UK mobile phone retailer. The venture aimed to capitalize on Best Buy’s successful big-box retail model, offering a vast array of electronics and a high level of customer service. The initial plan was ambitious, with goals to open up to 200 stores across the UK and Europe.
However, Best Buy’s UK expansion faced significant challenges. The economic climate post-2008 financial crisis was still uncertain, and consumer confidence was low. Additionally, the UK electronics market was already competitive, with established players like Dixons (owner of Currys and PC World) and Argos dominating the space. These incumbents had strong brand recognition and customer loyalty, making it difficult for Best Buy to gain a foothold.
Despite significant investments and efforts to differentiate through superior customer service and in-store experiences, Best Buy’s UK venture struggled to meet its financial targets. The stores underperformed, leading to substantial financial losses. By November 2011, just 18 months after opening its first store, Best Buy announced the closure of its UK operations, marking a swift exit from the market.
