Job Summary

Reporting to the E, I & C Team leader, the job holder will act as the Discipline Technical Authority for Instrumentation. In this capacity, the job holder will be accountable for establishing and maintaining a suite of Instrument standards, practices and procedures aimed at delivering consistent engineering activity across our operations and projects.

The ideal candidate will be degree educated in Instrumentation Engineering (ideally a Chartered Engineer), with extensive experience in operations and maintenance gained from working within the Oil & Gas, Chemical or other regulated industry. TUV Functional Safety Certification would be advantageous.

Job Description

Accountable for site standards and processes relevant to the design, operation and maintenance of instrumentation and protective systems
Develop and own our Functional Safety Management System (FSMS) in compliance with the requirements of EN 61511
Provide Instrument engineering assurance to projects, including formal review of external (3rd party) engineering documentation
Be the arbitrator on all technical issues related to the Instrument discipline
Custodian and ownership of common Instrument discipline processes such as Functional Safety Analysis (FSA)
Carry out and approve SIF reliability calculations
Review and approve deviations to discipline standards and practices
Provide technical responses to discipline related Technical Queries (TQs)
Define Instrument Engineering competency requirements and provide assurance of business wide Instrumentation competency and discipline health
Technical review and approval of relevant discipline MOCs
Provide Instrument expertise to incident investigations
Define long term opportunities for Instrumentation improvements
Lead or contribute to safety reviews, risk assessments and investigations as the instrumentation engineering focal point
Support the maintenance teams by developing planned maintenance routines
Support the maintenance teams in regard to equipment breakdowns, including investigation of equipment faults and defect elimination
Monitor and advise on the technical and safety implications of any maintenance backlogs
Development of discipline training material for engineers and technicians
Development and ongoing management of Instrumentation maintenance strategies and testing procedures
Technical review of deferral requests for instrumentation maintenance and repair activities
Support the planning and execution of shutdowns and major outages/turnarounds
Financial / Contract and Personnel Management
Generates ideas for cost saving/efficiencies
Coach, support and mentor team members/peers
Significant input to projects completions processes

Competency Requirements

Degree in Instrumentation Engineering
Chartered Instrument Engineer or working towards chartership
Supervisor experience preferential
Familiarity with CDM Regulations
Extensive Operation & Maintenance experience in the oil & gas industry or other regulated industry
Sound knowledge of instrument engineering principles and proven ability to apply them to real-world problems
Hold a Full UK driving licence and to drive company vehicles where appropriate
Demonstrate effective interpersonal, leadership skills and supervisory competence
Knowledge and experience of the design, operation, commissioning and maintenance of Safety Instrumented Systems to IEC 61511
Ability to use Microsoft packages and SAP
Good reporting, communication and workload management

TUV Functional Safety Certification (Preferred)
