The Role:

This is an opportunity for a talented, multi-disciplinary and enthusiastic creative professional to play a key role in shaping our high-profile online platforms.

Working for a globally famous author and educator you will work as part of a marketing team of four.

The Social Media Officer will develop written, visual and audio-visual media for all social media channels, in close collaboration with the PR and Education teams – and will report to the Operations Manager. They will directly operate the activity across the company’s social media platforms – including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Linkedin and Pinterest.

The successful candidate will have substantial professional experience in running high-visibility social media channels, as well as a strong portfolio of creative content. They will be able to demonstrate: excellent comprehension, copywriting and editing skills in English; strong capability in creating or facilitating visual assets (graphic design and video editing); successful audience engagement; a high level of attention to detail and organization; and creative and original thinking.

Core Responsibilities

● Working with the Operations Manager and PR and Education teams, to deliver the company’s communications plan across platforms.

● Create engaging daily content within branding guidelines – Writing, designing and editing content (text, graphics and videos), predominantly for the author but also for the education arm of the organisation.

● Operating and maintaining all of the company’s social media channels on a daily basis, including:

– Scheduling and publishing posts and stories on a daily basis

– Interact with a community of followers, including removal of inappropriate comments and monitoring of social media mailboxes

– Monitoring and and sharing third-party media coverage (tagged content)

– Monitoring engagement across platforms

– Keeping the company’s social media records and content library up to date

● Maximizing the reach of the company’s content, including:

– Seeking out partnerships with other social media pages

– Targeting campaigns as appropriate

– Encourage social media advocacy within the company

● Safeguarding the reputation of the company and its founders through online activities.

Basic Requirements

● 1-2 years of experience in operating and creating content for official online media pages, owned by a company or a public entity.

● A portfolio of engaging, top quality written and visual work.

● Up-to-date knowledge of Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Linkedin – including each platform’s features, organic publishing tools and user trends.

● Native speaker with perfect written English, with the ability to write and edit social media copy clearly and sensitively, in a brand-tailored style.

● A strong visual eye, with the ability to create, design and edit visual and audio-visual materials (basic graphic design, subtitling, cutting video, etc.) – or to direct professional visual editors accurately.

● Up-to-date knowledge of video and graphic editing tools, including Premier Pro, Photoshop, Canva, and subtitling tools.

● Creative and original thinking, and the ability to repurpose existing content.

● Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

● Understanding of PR sensitivities and reputation management considerations, and confidence in representing a high-profile public persona.

● Flexibility to work outside conventional hours, to publish social media posts and react to unforeseen issues related to current affairs.

Additional Requirements

● Ability to create all elements of social media posts at the highest quality, adapting content to brand guidelines and optimizing formats for each platform.

● Broad interest and knowledge in the humanities and sciences.

● Understanding of what makes content accessible, and ability to engage the general public via words and images.

● Ability to work productively, dynamically, and independently – under pressure and to deadlines.

● Team player with excellent communication skills.

● Ability to consistently use discretion, judgment, and initiative.

● Experience of working with digital advertising agencies/PPC – Advantage

● Understanding of the edutainment landscape – Advantage
